Asbestos is a tiny fiber that has been used to provide strength, fire resistance and for its insulating properties. Asbestos has been known to cause Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma in individuals that were exposed to free flowing fibers in the air.
 
Homes built prior to 1980 may contain asbestos in insulation, paint, siding and other building materials. Asbestos may be a threat if the fibers are released into the air and inhaled.
